Though belong to another profession, I always adored the unanimity and harmony among the members of veterinary profession. But it seems as something of a forgotten era. A few decades back, though the Veterinary profession didn't gain much fame and glory of these days, there existed a mystifying and beautiful co existence among the veterinarians.
Leave it. I am a thoroughly confused man today. Sipping my black cofee over the Malayalam and English newspapers, I am surprised over the covert operations of communal organizations to snatch the seemingly intellectual or rather radical or ethical issue of removing a person from the high position of vice chancellor of a university. Even Gokulam Gopalan is so concerned of Dr.B.Ashok and even plans to stage agitations till Dr Ashok is reinstated.
My concern is: Where are the members of veterinary profession? I scanned every newspaper in Malayalam and English for a word of resentment or protest over the unceremonious farewell given to a respectable member of their profession. I went through their websites (www.ivakerala, www.vetcos.com, www.jivaonline.net, www.indvetjournal.com) for a comment on the heated issue, but not a word. Their leaders seem tight lipped. They seem either scared to open up in public even when the first veterinarian of Kerala who rose to the position of a vice chancellor is insulted in broad daylight or are they such a mean and jealous lot waiting for the fall of their arch enemy?
No matter you call Dr Ashok egoistic, autocratic, megalomaniac, pompous or narcissistic, he belongs to your profession and he could have taken the profession and veterinary education to greater heights. It is heard that some one at the university celebrated his ouster over petty quarrels they had with the vice chancellor. Pity them. Pity the members of the veterinary profession for having such a rotten and cowardly bunch of blockheads as their leaders.Throw them out and express yourself. Better be late than never.

We lost a VC who wanted to make KVASU to a world class one.
What dr jayarajan said is very correct. Our people are very coward. In the college we had a meeting convened by the IVA, Mannuthy unit in the very next day dr ashok was ousted. Majority were of the opinion that we should inform the public through news paper our resentment and concern over the removal of dr ashok from the post of VC especially in a period when many developmental works were in the process of sprouting. Next day we were waiting for paper news. But nothing happened. It seems IVA leadership in Mannuthy campus is afraid of telling the truth. Dr. Ashok was the only individual who was fighting against our agri brothers for our own land in Mannuthy campus. Interestingly no vets were fighting for that or our people in the key posts were not at all taking any leadership for that. Dr Ashok had lot of plans and vision about our veterinary university. He wanted KVASU to be a world class one. Actually the blow is not to him but to the pride of the entire vet. There is a big force other than bureaucracy behind his removal. It is a shame that his personal letter was taken to the press by some of our own people. At a time of standing united, we are running away. May be this could be the right way for the current period!
Congrats to Rajeswary and Jacob Alexander
Recently I saw them in a TV doing operation in a cobra.
Definitely this kind of news will boost up our image.Hearty congratulations to them.

Please don't over estimate us....
Sir,
The very fact that vets in Kerala are a unified group itself is the answer to the apathy of the community towards this issue.
We are a single unit because we are interested only in those matters relevant to our profession, compensation and working atmosphere. Anything which doesn't affect these things is not at all a matter of concern to this community. Most of us are mute living beings just like our patients... we live in a world quite different from what u observe.. hospital, private practice..money.. and family. Have you ever seen the vet community showing its presnce in any issues related to the farmers eventhough the very existance of us is based on them? nothing.. nothing since as far as we are concidered , they all are aliens. If the vets has got nothing to do with Farmer community , how a V.C shall be a matter of concern to them?
Th common culture we imbibed from our alma mater is another issue. We all come from a single college. (even though there are two colleges now, the variability is low since most of the teachers hail from Mannuthy itself). The mantra we have recieved from our college keeps us going through out our life. Life is to enjoy.. that was the message we got from there. Even many a revolutionaries of college days, who were vociferous about anything from Mandela to Makri have become true disciples of this mantra and pure practitioners outside.
So sir, please don't get frustrated.. an inward looking group can behave only like that... and the associations could only be a true representation of the community.. Field Vets have got nothing to do in the college or university .. then what concern they should have about the V.C.? College vets may have their own ineterests. Who will support an active V.C if the compensation is the same for hard work, mild work and no work?
So sir.. please don't expect any fire from this community. Hope you would have read the story of a foolish bird in Panchatnatra who went to advice the monkeys.

Dr Noushad I disagree..
Dear Dr Noushad
The first part ofyou rejoinder is appreciated. But the statement " Have you ever seen the vet showing its presnce in any issues related to the farmers eventhough the very existance of us is based on them? nothing.. nothing since as far as we are concidered , they all are aliens.
I disagree with this statement of yours. If you have time please visit the link and read a dozen reports and interventions both national and International where I have contributed. The Plachimada Cocacola compensation by the State Government was fixed baed on a PhD thesis of one of my students (Dr Raja Ganapathy of Pondicherry (RGCVS).It marked a breaktrough in Eco damage compensations.
The So called Farmer suicides of Wayand in our Report "Farmer Suicide a psycho social autopsy" was nationally and Internationally citede and quoted.Probably the first scientific intervention in all 25 Panchayaths and 1 Municipality of Wayand to address the calamity was planned ,designed and implimented with the help of many NGOs and agencies like Caritas India,by me while at Pookot..This is for you kind informaton..The link is appended:

Sir
Thanx for the reply.
It is really commendable that you are actively involved in social issues and we are really proud abt it.. During our life at Covas, some of us from 91 batch were happy to associate with you and I don't know whether u remember it (ZEST) ? There are many vets who share similar concerns and involve in such issues in different segments and levels.
But this doesnt undermine the fact that vet community as a whole.. namely our representative assocaitions .. do not take up such issues. The word I used was vet community and not vet.. and that was my point
PS. I am the chief co-ordinator of an NGO implementing Govt aided HIV/AIDS projects for MSMs and SWs, implementing RWH projects of CAPART, as well as WGDP and Watershed development projects, eco restoration using vetiver hedges.....

dear noushad,
i think the assocoations are not at all concerned with any thing. what these assoc. did when one of their member dr. vincent was sacked.
You say it best when you say nothing at all
"And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence "
(paul simon 1964)
Your blog was thought provoking..
The Vice Chancellor was a visionary.the whole profession stood in awe..dreams were woven together,,,and when it is shattered the professionals remain silent ..the silenec more dangerous than 100 revolutions..Each person nurtured a futuristic vision within a short time ..Hope youhave heard the quote"Do not speak unless you can improve your silence" Ther may be a few who enjoyed the power and abandoned him the moment he was ousted..But the majority is a different world..I am reminded of the famous song" "You say it best when you say nothing at all"
thanks for the concern
